Sumario: Fragata blindada o ironclad de propulsión mixta de vela y vapor, construida en los astilleros Thames Iron Works, Blackwall (Inglaterra), por encargo del Gobierno español de 14 de julio de 1862. Se inició su construcción el 15 de enero de 1863, y se dio de alta en la Marina de Guerra española el 15 de noviembre de 1867. Estuvo en servicio activo hasta 1907. Existe una confusión sobre su nombre oficial, Victoria o Vitoria. Participó en las distintas acciones navales de la Armada española de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, interviniendo en los distintos conflictos civiles y en el control de la soberanía en el Caribe. La Vitoria no llegó a intervenir en la guerra de 1898 contra los norteamericanos por no haber terminado a tiempo sus reformas. Finalmente, una maqueta de la fragata cuelga como exvoto en una pequeña capilla de Hondarribia (Guipúzcoa), junto al río Bidasoa.
