The BVD makes it possible for all users to access the digitised cultural and scientific heritage held in archives, libraries and museums belonging to the Ministry of Defense. It provides free access to printed books and manuscripts, cartographic materials, drawings, photographs, musical scores, museum pieces and documentary series related to different scientific expeditions (Malaspina, Indies, Pacific) as well as official and scientific publications resulting from the publishing and dissemination activities of the Ministry of Defense. Launched in 2012, the BVD sought to preserve and share some of the Spanish Army and Navy's most important cultural objects, increasing access to cultural heritage and significant historical documents to enable discovery, scholarship and use.
