Notes: Resumen: El origen de las armas se remonta al momento en el que el hombre puso pie en la tierra. Si bien las armas han ido cambiando su aspecto, forma, tecnología y uso, mientras existan hombres en la tierra, seguirán construyéndose armas en sus distintas tipologías: armas de guerra, armas de defensa personal, armas lúdico-deportivas etc. De hecho, la evolución de las armas es un claro reflejo del progreso de la civilización. Y aunque las armas están en general asociadas con términos bélicos como crimen, conflicto y violencia, el problema de las armas no radica en su existencia si no en el uso inadecuado de las mismas especialmente por aquellos individuos que trafican con ellas y las usan careciendo de las condiciones médicas adecuadas o del conocimiento técnico preciso para su utilización. Es por ello que la comunidad internacional está trabajando para evitar el uso y tenencia ilícita de armas. El control de las personas que poseen armas y verificación de sus cualificaciones para su tenencia y uso, es un foco de trabajo prioritario para los Gobiernos de todas las naciones, que llevan registros estrictos de cada artefacto para poder identificar correctamente a los propietarios en todo momento. A pesar de dichos esfuerzos, a día de hoy el tráfico ilícito de armas, en concreto de las armas de fuego pequeñas y ligeras, es todavía una realidad, y el ofrecer mayor información sobre dicha actividad es el motivo de este trabajo.
